We had some friends take newborn pictures of Nora this past week. We tried to get some of the girls together, but T burst in to tears when we put Nora in her lap. I guess that's what we get for doing it after Teresa's bedtime. The pictures are done by Lloyd Photography, I think they did an awesome job, especially since Nora wasn't the most cooperative little photo subject.

Our Little Rascal
If you spend any time at our house, it's pretty obvious we have an almost-two-year-old. Teresa can be pretty rascally when she wants to. She can also be totally sweet and obedient. When she wants to. I can see her testing her boundaries all the time. She gets a very rascally grin while she deliberately disobeys us, almost like she's daring us to do something about it. Sometimes when she's getting into stuff she isn't supposed to, I'll see her looking around to make sure we see what she's doing. Recently she's started mocking Marc when he asks her to do something. He'll say 'please, Teresa', and she'll tilt her head back and forth saying 'pease, pease, pease' in a little mocking manner. Then she'll laugh, while she continues not to do what he asked her to. I have to try to not let her see me laughing at it. Honestly, it's so much easier to find her rascally-ness amusing when Marc is home with me, then when I'm by myself with T. We'll be sad when paternity leave is over.
It doesn't help that she's getting taller, either. We're running out of places to put stuff that are out of her reach. Especially since she's figured out how to push the dining table chairs up to counters to get what she wants.
Today Marc was out running errands, so I was alone with the two girls. I was feeding Nora when T disappeared up the stairs. After a few minutes of total silence I got a bit nervous. She's not one to play upstairs unless someone else is up there, so as much as I hoped she was playing innocently in her room, I wasn't too surprised when she came down holding a bottle of lotion, covered pretty much head to toe in the stuff. (I had to laugh, because it reminded me of waking up to a little nephew Liam in my room with a bottle of my lotion spread all over himself and the carpet. I'm assuming he was probably around T's age at the time). Luckily, T spared our carpet, she just coated herself and her sweater. It's kinda hard to tell in the pics, but believe me, there was a lot of it. Especially on her face.
She loooooves stickers, of course. They have to be put on her belly. They're only rascally because after she sticks them on her belly, she peels them all off and tries to stick them on the coffee table.
She really does well with Nora, but she also likes to appropriate all her stuff. Nora has (sadly) not shown much interest in pacifiers. Teresa, on the other hand, thinks they're awesome, and spirits them away every chance she gets. She doesn't even suck on them, she just likes to have them. And she loves climbing in Nora's little bed. She's five pounds over the weight limit, but I always feel so bad making her get out. It's also not uncommon for us to find Mickey Mouse tucked in there.
Today I gave her a cookie, and then found her sitting on the couch, browsing a Carter's ad while she at it. It made me laugh.
Nora is sleeping and eating and creating lots of diapers and laundry. I don't remember Teresa having this many dirty diapers, but maybe I'm just blocking out those memories ;). T gave her a ball to play with while the rest of us ate dinner tonight.
I love it. T just loves her little sister, Nora is now included every time Teresa gives us high fives or knuckles us. She'll give me one, then Daddy, and then she heads over to Nora and gently taps her little hand as well. We've also been exploiting Nora to get more kisses from Teresa. Most of the time Marc and I get rejected when we request kisses from T, but if we tell her to go give Nora a kiss, we'll usually all get one.
The other day, Teresa climbed up next to Nora on the couch, and they just looked so cute together. Of course when I got over there with the camera, T totally bailed, and I ended up with this picture:
Unfortunately, that's what most of our pictures of Teresa end up looking like.

Pictures
We've been having fun here with these two little girls this week.
The transition to having a little sister doesn't seem to have been too traumatic for T so far. She is a little quicker to cry about some things now, but that's about it. She is loving having Nora around.
T is a pretty good helper, she's great at bringing me the boppy to feed Nora, and loves tucking extra blankets around her.
Nora finally decided to spend some time awake today, this is the most alert she's been since birth. I still can't believe how tiny she is! Even her newborn size outfits are big on her.
This is pretty much the best baby invention of all time! Fiona sent us this awesome swaddle blanket, and it is magical. When Nora is in it, she sleeps 3-4 hours at a time. Without it she's down to 1-2. Several times she's been fussy and crying, and as soon as we zip her up in this she settled right down. Plus, I think babies just look so cute when they're all swaddled up snug like that. Doesn't she look like a little carrot in it?
After T's bath, she just really wanted to hold Nora.
This one is actually from the day we brought her home.
Nora is such a perfect addition to our family, we just love her so much! It's been fun noticing the ways she is different or the same from Teresa when she was this age. She's been sleeping better than we hoped at night, so we're crossing our fingers she keeps that up. Overall, she seems easier than T was. Or maybe we're a little more experienced this time around ;).

Nora Merian Milligan
We are so excited to welcome our little Nora to our family! She was born February 13th at 2:29 pm.
Lying in bed Saturday night I had finally resigned myself to the fact that she was never, ever going to get here. Luckily, I was wrong, and woke up around 2 in the morning with really bad back pains. It was hard to tell if I was having contractions or not because the back pain was just totally overwhelming whatever was going on with my abdomen. I woke Marc up at 3 and we spent the next 40 minutes trying to call the doctor. Turns out I was having back labor, which is why I couldn't feel the contractions in my belly as much. We dropped a groggy Teresa off at a friends house and ended up heading to the hospital around 4, with my contractions only 2-3 minutes apart. We actually got a police escort off of base, which was pretty exciting.
Based on how fast T's labor was, we were pretty sure it wouldn't take long to get this baby girl here as well. We guessed she would be here by 8 or 9 in the morning. We were so wrong! I couldn't believe how long it took. My epidural was so much better this time around, so that part of labor was better than with Tressa. I actually didn't mind that it took so long, since I was able to get a few naps in. But the pushing was way, way, WAY worse than with Teresa. Good grief. Nora took almost an hour and a half of pushing, compared to T's barely 30 minutes.
The main difference between the two was that after T was born I thought "that wasn't too bad, I can totally do that again", and this time I thought "wow, I'm probably not ever going to want to do that again".
Another big surprise was how little she is! I was hoping she would be smaller than T was, but still expected her to be pretty darn big. She weighed in at 8lbs 1oz, and is 20 3/4 inches long. The nurses kept calling her LGA, or large for gestational age, but we think she is tiny. I think it's so weird that my body would grow such completely different sized babies. I guess if/when we ever have a third baby we really won't know what to expect!
We had such a hard time naming this baby! With T, we had her name picked out as soon as I knew I was pregnant, and the first time I saw her I knew for sure that she was a Teresa Brigid. With Nora, we had a name we'd been calling her, but it just didn't seem to fit once we saw her. We finally went with Nora, because we like it, but it turns out we both have some Nora's in the family history, so that worked out. And the Merian is after Marc's mom.
Teresa loves her baby sister, she was so excited to see her in the hospital, and get to hold her. When Nora started complaining T would just keep saying 'sad' over and over, and once Nora started really crying Teresa just totally lost it and started sobbing as well. I think that one was a combination of empathy and being a little scared of what was going on. She likes to point out her nose and ears and hair, and anytime she starts to stir T puts a finger up to her lips and says 'shhhh' to her.
We're so happy to be home now, both girlies are sleeping peacefully so I guess Marc and I should go try to do some of that too!

Bubbles
We got T some bubble bath to try out today. She wasn't too impressed with it at first, but after Marc showed her how fun it was she got in to it some more. She's a big fan of baths right now, except for the actual bathing part, of course. Marc was trying to show her how to make a beard out of the bubbles, but she decided to eat them instead. She wasn't such a fan of the taste. She looks so chunky in these pics, I was really surprised!
Here's a little video. For some reason Vimeo won't let me title any of my videos recently. Weird.
T is such a sweet girl lately. I've been pretty sick the past few days, and she has been so well behaved. I spent a lot of the day Friday in bed, and she just gathered up a couple of books and toys and climbed into my bed next to me. She let me rest while she read and played next to me. After one particularly nasty round of coughing, she leaned over and started rubbing my arm for a little while. Another time she just came up and leaned against me and started patting my forehead. She also took a three hour nap for the first time ever. It was amazing. She's funny, when she hears me coughing or sniffling she will fake cough and sniffle too. She's a pretty good little nurse.

Doctor and dress up
I went to the doctor yesterday, T and Marc came too - it's amazing how much more manageable T is when there are two of us! Anyway, my doctor said the baby is lower this week than last, so that was good news. Then she approximated the size for us. Supposedly baby is 'upper 7's, low 8's' right now. She said she'd be surprised if she ended up more than a 'high 8'. I think she's wrong, but it's what I wanted to hear, so I'll take it ;). Of course, Erin was quick to point out to me that her doctor approximated her first baby at being 6 pounds something, and he turned out to really be 9lbs 14...
It certainly feels like she's running out of room, so hopefully she'll be here sooner than later!
In other news, here are some pics of T from Sunday morning. She decided she wanted to wear one of my maternity shirts. Then she needed her princess shirt, and topped it all of with another dress, but she only wanted that around her neck. Silly girl, we have so much fun with her.
